Update: Jesse Hunter, DTS Student
It has only been two weeks in Thailand and honestly so so much has been happening. We stayed in two different villages, one for 4 and one for 5 days. The first was a hill tribe of Karen people from Burma. We stayed in bamboo huts. On a tangent, bamboo is [...]
From YWAM UMWinnipeg staff member, Lindsey Ainsworth:
Hey all! We just wanted to let you know that we have arrived safely, despite a lost passport (then found) and several other minor mishaps on the way. My first time on Korean Air was slightly disappointing due to the false advertising regarding personal t.v. screens (on an 11-hour [...]
NOTE: The JDTS is now in Thailand on outreach, so updates will be less frequent as they have access.
After a brief nine day holiday that saw most of us going home, our first week back in Winnipeg was spent working at the Union Gospel Mission. UGM is a non-denominational urban mission in the North End [...]
This was a great week for the DTS. We had Christ Whitler from YWAM Modesto, California in to speak on evangelism. Here’s a picture of all of us (except Kim) with Chris.
So this week Chris shared with us a lot of great stories and experiences from his ministry. He asked us to share what our dreams were as a kid, what causes us pain in the world, and other questions that we were able to explore for ourselves, and discover about each other. Chris showed a video about creation – from the smallest thing (inside an atom) to the biggest (beyond the galaxy). It was encouraging to be reminded of vastness of everything, as well as how detailed every created thing is.Chris emphasized that when we are talking to people, we need to drop our agendas. Here’s a little illustration that Chris used: Cats will sit outside the front door, just staring at it. As soon as someone opens the door, they run inside. We need to be like that, in the way that we need to wait for God to open the door before we go inside. We need to let our connection with God lead the way. Here is Chris’ T-Rex impression; it will forever be left in our memories of this DTS…
I hope you enjoyed that.
Last week was also Thanksgiving! Monday night we were able to sit around the table and be thankful for the great food and everything that we have. On Wednesday night we watched a documentary called The High Cost of Low Prices. It’s basically about Walmart (and companies like it) that pulls in billions of dollars every year but barely pays its workers a living wage. I really encourage you to check it out; it shows a lot of behind the scenes information that so many people don’t realize.
AND on Thursday it was Jesse’s birthday! Happy Birthday Jesse!
Here’s a passage that’s really been an occurring theme in lecture times and activities:
“When he finally arrives, blazing in beauty and all his angels with him, the Son of Man will take his place on his glorious throne. Then all the nations will be arranged before him and he will sort the people out, much as a shepherd sorts out sheep and goats, putting sheep to his right and goats to his left.
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what’s coming to you in this kingdom. It’s been ready for you since the world’s foundation. And here’s why:
I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was homeless and you gave me a room, I was shivering and you gave me clothes, I was sick and you stopped to visit, I was in prison and you came to me.’
“Then those ’sheep’ are going to say, ‘Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink? And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?’ Then the King will say, ‘I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.’
“Then he will turn to the ‘goats,’ the ones on his left, and say, ‘Get out, worthless goats! You’re good for nothing but the fires of hell. And why? Because— I was hungry and you gave me no meal, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was homeless and you gave me no bed, I was shivering and you gave me no clothes, Sick and in prison, and you never visited.’
“Then those ‘goats’ are going to say, ‘Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or homeless or shivering or sick or in prison and didn’t help?’
“He will answer them, ‘I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you failed to do one of these things to someone who was being overlooked or ignored, that was me—you failed to do it to me.’
“Then those ‘goats’ will be herded to their eternal doom, but the ’sheep’ to their eternal reward.”-Matthew 25:31 – 46Thanks for reading! !!!BONUS MATERIAL!!! Hi, this is Jamie, the co-director here at YWAM UMW. I came across this video and HAD to add it. Enjoy!
The passage from Matthew was the one our small group studied this week! It is so cool how God gets us looking at the same things in different parts of the country. He so wants us ALL with Him in heaven. Continue to walk with Him and we will continue to uphold you before Him. Glad you’re throwing some fun in there also
